Two years of cuts, school closings, and lay-offs have taken a terrible toll on education in our city. And now our communities are facing another round of budget cuts that even the School District says will leave our schools empty shells that warehouse rather than educate our children.
These Governors both stand for policies that enrich corporations at the expense of working people, for cutting back on public education and health care., for privatizing schools and public services, for disempowering and impoverishing communities of color. They both need to be held to account.
1) Full and fair funding to ensure that all students have equitable access to resources at excellent schools in their neighborhoods.
2) Abolish the SRC and return our schools to local control
3) Fully staffed schools including full-time on-site nurses and counselors at every school.
