The SRC, School District Can’t Ignore Us Much Longer

On March 7, we didn’t get a moratorium on school closings—but we did change the conversation.

The March 7 rally at 440 N. Broad Street was as instructive as it was beautiful.

It was great to see so many teachers, parents, students, elected officials and clergy standing together to call for a moratorium—and a better way—to turn our school district around. I was personally gratified and proud that my national union presidentRandi Weingarten stood alongside community activists and was ultimately arrested for fighting for high quality public education in Philadelphia.

In a big way, the voices of the true owners of Philadelphia’s public schools were heard… but ultimately ignored by the School Reform Commission.
