The costs of maintaining closed schools…

An article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette details another dimension of the costs involved in closing schools.   The Pittsburg School District has spent 23 million dollars on maintaining closed buildings.   Superintendent  Linda Lane says: “Schools are a big investment. … You take care of your assets; you just don’t let them deteriorate and fall apart because you may not be using them forever,”

This is what can happen when closed buildings are not maintained.   The old Julia de Burgos building, formerly Northeast and Edison high schools, burned after sitting stripped and abandoned for years.
