Moratorium Movement Continues To Gain Momentum

The sparing of some schools from the closing list has not stopped the movement for a one year moratorium.   That was the message of angry students, teachers, parents and citizens at 440 N. Broad St. Yesterday.    PCAPS members took over the SRC meeting to condemn the closings and pin responsibility on the Mayor and Governor, then took to the streets to make their point.   Among the speakers were parents from schools that were taken off the closings list but who realize the fight for them is far from over.   As one Gompers parent put it.  “The Fight is not over.   Gompers is safe this year, but what about next year and the following year”.   The Facilities Master Plan calls for more school closings next year.

Two new organizations, the Philadelphia Chapters of the National Organization of Women and the Americans for Democratic Action just endorsed the call for a one year mortorium
