School Closing / Reorganization meeting at Sayre High School was mostly constructive . Students asked Dr Hite some great questions, while advocating for their schools. As I have told folks nothing is a done deal. The more we advocate for best interests of our students, the more we can sway the public and officials’ opinons.

Tomorrow there will be another meeting about the recommended closes of our Philadelphia Public Schools at Edison High School 151 W Luzerne 6pm-8pm. My School Bayard Taylor Elementary School is on that list. We just received a brand new Playground from the Hammels Foundation that was approved to be built just this last May. They are talking about moving the playground to the Roberto Clemente Promise Academy as well as our children. The district knew about our wall collapse before they gave the go ahead to build the playground and opened it to the community in August. I am asking for the support of the Home & School Council to help Taylor Elementary School Home & School Association make a stand and fight this. Please come out and attend.

Rosemari Hatcher and I were at Wister School,which is slated to lose its fifth and sixth grades, this morning representing PCAPS at the Home and School Meeting. Parents are concerned and several want to be on our list and plan to come to our Vigil Thursday. Students will have to travel to Leeds Middle School, a long distance and a different neighborhoold. People expressed concern about the long range impact of charter school growth on neighborhood schools, citing the inequitable policies allowing charters to get rid of challenging students.
